ResearchAlum predicted on the 27th that Jeju Semiconductor would benefit from the increased demand for low-power semiconductors due to the activation of on-device AI.
Researcher Lee Seung-hwan of ResearchAlum stated, "The era of 'on-device AI technology,' where AI technology is applied directly to smartphones or PCs without going through servers or the cloud, has arrived," and introduced, "On-device AI is a technology that implements AI functions within the device itself, such as mobile devices or autonomous vehicles."
He continued, "The biggest advantage of on-device AI is its faster processing speed compared to the existing methods because it does not go through external servers or the cloud," and explained, "Since on-device AI runs AI directly on the device, it costs less and has faster information processing speed." Additionally, he added, "There is no need to worry about communication performance degradation," and "Users can freely use application services even when communication is unstable or disconnected."
The researcher said, "On-device AI inevitably consumes a lot of power because the AI algorithms operate within the device itself," and predicted, "As the on-device AI market grows, the demand for low-power semiconductors that reduce power consumption will increase." He emphasized, "Recently, after Qualcomm held the 'Snapdragon Summit 2023' event, companies like Apple and Samsung Electronics have competitively revealed plans to directly integrate AI technology into devices," and added, "As AI growth, which was limited to servers, expands to general devices, market expansion will be possible."
Researcher Lee pointed out AI smartphones as the devices that will spread the on-device AI craze, explaining, "One of the core chips to implement this is LPDDR."
He said, "Not only AI smartphones but also AI home appliances, which will expand connectivity in the future, will increase the importance of LPDDR," and added, "Jeju Semiconductor is a leading domestic fabless company that designs LPDDR." He also explained, "The devices that mainly use the memory semiconductors designed by Jeju Semiconductor are mobile devices and data cards."
