Bio Association and Polytech Specialized University Jointly Host 'Bio Workforce Development Forum'
The Korea Bio Association announced on the 27th that it will jointly host the '2023 Biopharmaceutical Industry Workforce Development Strategy Forum' with Korea Polytechnic Specialized University.
Now in its fifth year, this forum will be held on the 29th at the Gyeonggi R&DB Center located in Gwanggyo, Suwon, Gyeonggi Province. Participants from the biopharmaceutical industry, academia, and government agencies will gather to seek solutions for strategies to train practical workforce in the bio sector.
Jiho Son, Head of Industry Support Division at the Korea Bio Association, will deliver the first presentation on the topic of 'Trends and Forecasts of Workforce Supply and Demand in the Bio Industry.' Following him, Sungwook Yang, Head of Production at Celltrion, and Jongseong Ahn, Head of Production Quality at Kolon Biotech, will present on 'Directions of Workforce Demand Needed by the Industry.' From the education sector, Seonok Jeong, a teacher at Gyeongbuk Bio Meister High School, and Jooyoung Jeong, Director of Academic Planning at Korea Polytechnic University Bio Campus, will present on the 'Current Status of Bio Production Workforce Training.'
During the event, appointment letters will be awarded to the industry-academia advisory committee members of the Korea Polytechnic University Industrial Comprehensive Education Council. The advisory group consists of experts from domestic biopharmaceutical practical workforce training institutions including Meister High Schools and specialized high schools in the bio field, Osong Advanced Medical Industry Promotion Foundation, Yonsei University K-NIBRT Project Group, Korea Human Resource Development Institute for Health and Welfare, Chungbuk Bio Industry-Academia Convergence Center, Jeonnam Bio Promotion Agency Biological Medicine Research Center, Microbial Validation Support Center, and Animal Cell Validation Support Center.
Chungeon Lim, Acting Chairman of Korea Polytechnic University, stated, "Although the biopharmaceutical market is rapidly growing, the mismatch in bio workforce supply and demand is intensifying, accelerating the shortage of practical workforce. We hope that this forum will serve as an opportunity for industry, academia, and government to come together to explore practical, field-linked education directions and establish governance to play a leading role in bioindustry workforce development."

Jiho Son, Head of Industry Support Division at the Korea Bio Association, said, "The issue of securing practical workforce in the bio industry has been consistently raised for a long time, but there have been few opportunities for industry, academia, and government to come together to discuss and share solutions. We will work closely with Korea Polytechnic University to create many opportunities to listen directly to companies' difficulties and collaboratively devise appropriate countermeasures."
