Inwang Market and Yujin Arcade Area Selected as Target Sites for 'Seoul Metropolitan Area Transit-Oriented Development Project'
Finding a Solution for 'Yujin Mansion Above the Stream'
Seodaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seongheon) announced on the 24th that the ‘Hongje District Center,’ covering an area of 42,572㎡ including Inwang Market and Yujin Mansion in Hongje-dong 298-9, has recently been selected as a target site for the ‘Seoul Metropolitan Area Transit Station Area Revitalization Project.’
Yujin Mansion is a mixed-use residential and commercial building constructed over Hongjecheon in 1970. In the 1990s, part of the residential building (Building B, 4th to 5th floors) was demolished due to the construction of the Inner Circular Road. The Hongje District Center development was promoted through the ‘Hongje 1 Urban Environment Improvement Project’ in 2010, but the area was deregulated due to resident conflicts. Various development methods were attempted afterward but were not realized.
According to Seodaemun-gu, a dedicated team was formed this year to centralize the project information desk at the district office and provide continuous project-related information to ‘land and other property owners.’ More than 40 individual and group meetings and briefings were held to maintain communication with residents.
In June, at the ‘3rd Communication Forum with Residents,’ the district prepared a project plan reflecting residents’ opinions to promote the development of the Hongje District Center using the ‘Seoul Metropolitan Area Transit Station Area Revitalization Project’ method directly chosen by residents. After gaining high consent, the application was submitted to Seoul City.

With Seodaemun-gu’s Hongje District Center selected as a target site for Seoul City’s Transit Station Area Revitalization Project, it is evaluated that a foundation has been laid for providing citizens with leisure spaces through the restoration of Hongjecheon, creating a waterfront emotional city, and establishing a landmark in the northwest area.
