The proportion of female executives among the top 100 domestic companies has entered the 6% range for the first time this year. Samsung Electronics had the highest number of female executives.
Global headhunting specialist Unicosrch announced on the 23rd the status of female executives based on the semi-annual reports of the top 100 companies by sales. The number of female executives in the top 100 companies increased by 36 (8.9%) from last year to 439, accounting for 6.0% of the total (7,345). This figure includes inside directors, non-registered executives, and owner families, but excludes outside directors. Changes in executives after the submission of the semi-annual report were not reflected.
The proportion of female executives in the top 100 companies showed an increasing trend from 3.5% in 2019 → 4.1% in 2020 → 4.8% in 2021 → 5.6% last year → 6% this year. Unicosrch forecasted that the number of female executives will exceed 500 around 2025. Among the top 100 companies, 72 had female executives.

View original imageBy industry, the Information Technology (IT) sector accounted for 172 female executives, representing 39.2% of the total. Industries such as shipbuilding, shipping, steel, energy, and machinery had relatively fewer female executives.
By birth year, those born in the early 1970s (1970?1973) were the most numerous with 157 (35.8%). Those born between 1974 and 1976 numbered 114 (26%), followed by those born between 1977 and 1979 with 67 (15.3%). By single birth year, those born in 1971 were the most at 49. This was followed by those born in 1973 (44), 1975 (43), 1972 (38), and 1974 (37).
By company, Samsung Electronics (72) had the most female executives. CJ CheilJedang (30), Naver (26), Hyundai Motor Company (21), Lotte Shopping (15), Amorepacific (14), LG Electronics (12), LG Uplus and Mirae Asset Securities (each 11), KT, SK Telecom, and SK (each 10) also ranked in the top 10.
Among companies with 10 or more female executives, Amorepacific had the highest proportion of female executives at 25%. CJ CheilJedang (23.6%), Naver (19.8%), Lotte Shopping (16.5%), LG Uplus (15.1%), and KT (10%) followed.
Among the top 100 companies surveyed this time, there were 8 inside directors active as board members. Four executives also held the CEO title: Choi Yeon-hye, President of Korea Gas Corporation (born 1956), Lee Jeong-ae, President of LG Household & Health Care (born 1963), Lee Boo-jin, President of Hotel Shilla (born 1970), and Choi Soo-yeon, President of Naver (born 1981).
