The 'Local Finance Awards' is the most prestigious award in local finance held annually by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to enhance the efficiency and soundness of local finance. The 'Local Tax Category Presentation Contest' is an event where local tax officials nationwide, including the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Korea Local Tax Research Institute, present cases such as local tax delinquency collection, tax audits, and benchmarking examples.
Previously, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety selected 18 outstanding cases through a document review targeting local governments, and on this day, Kim Seung-shin, a Grade 9 tax official from Yeosu City, representing Jeollanam-do, gave a presentation titled 'Pinpointing Stolen Vehicles Anytime, Anywhere.'
This is an excellent policy developed by Yeosu City, a system that links the delinquent vehicle license plate seizure enforcement system with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s information on vehicles under operation suspension orders. It allows immediate on-site seizure of stolen vehicles found, enabling not only the collection of delinquent taxes but also active disposal of stolen vehicles through public auctions.
As a result of the presentation, Officer Kim won the final Excellence Award, elevating Yeosu City’s honor by securing the Minister of the Interior and Safety’s institutional commendation along with a special grant of 100 million KRW.
