2024 Porter II Launch
Diesel Removed, LPG Engine Introduced
Hyundai Motor Company launched the 2024 model year update of the small truck Porter II on the 22nd. Instead of the existing 2.5ℓ diesel engine, it is equipped with a newly developed Smartstream liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) 2.5 turbo engine.
With a maximum output of 159 horsepower, it is 24 horsepower higher than the previous diesel engine. The company explained that the turbocharger system improves torque at low speeds. Various convenience features that were previously applied only to higher trims, such as the audio system, are now standard. The heated rear glass, which was included only in the most expensive trim, is now standard in the trim one level below.
High-end trims come standard with an 8-inch display audio and a rear monitor. A package including a 10.25-inch navigation system, push-button start, and smart key is available for all trims. Seatbelt pretensioners are standard.
The prices are 20.39 million KRW for the Style trim (based on the two-wheel drive extra-long Super Cab with a 6-speed manual transmission, same below), 21.07 million KRW for the Smart, 21.77 million KRW for the Modern, and 22.60 million KRW for the Premium. Prices have increased by about 1.4 million to 1.8 million KRW depending on the trim. Typically, LPG models are about 1 million KRW more expensive than the same diesel models.
The company explained that switching from diesel to LPG results in an annual fuel cost saving of about 700,000 KRW. This is based on driving 18,000 km annually using the average fuel prices at gas stations nationwide this month. Emissions of fine dust and nitrogen oxides are at levels similar to hybrid vehicles. If an existing diesel vehicle is scrapped and a new Porter is purchased, up to 9 million KRW in subsidies can be received (1 million KRW for the LPG cargo vehicle new purchase subsidy + 8 million KRW for early scrappage support for diesel vehicles with emission grade 4).
