"More Than Half of Laundry Service Disputes Attributed to Manufacturers and Laundry Companies"

More than half of the disputes related to laundry services were found to be the responsibility of the manufacturer-seller or due to negligence by the laundry service providers.
The Korea Consumer Agency announced on the 22nd that an analysis of 3,883 laundry service-related review cases submitted from 2021 until last month confirmed this. The Textile Product Review Committee is composed of experts in the field to efficiently resolve consumer disputes related to textile products or laundry services by identifying the party responsible.
According to the committee's analysis, disputes classified as the responsibility of the manufacturer-seller due to defective product quality accounted for 29.3% (1,138 cases), while those judged as negligence by laundry service providers accounted for 26.4% (1,027 cases). Among the 1,027 cases judged as laundry service provider negligence, the most common type was "inappropriate washing method" at 54.1% (556 cases), followed by "insufficient post-treatment" at 18.1% (186 cases), and "insufficient stain removal" at 12.5% (128 cases).
Among all review cases, the top five laundry service providers accounted for 1,509 cases (38.9%), with Clean Topia (899 cases), World Cleaning (315 cases), Wash Swat (116 cases), Clean Aid (90 cases), and Clean Partner (89 cases). A detailed look at the review cases related to these five companies shows that the proportion of negligence judgments by company was highest for Clean Partner (29.2%), followed by Clean Aid (26.7%), World Cleaning (23.2%), Wash Swat (21.6%), and Clean Topia (20.5%).

The Korea Consumer Agency urged consumers to check the condition of products before requesting laundry services and to retrieve the finished laundry as soon as possible to immediately check for any defects. They also added that if any color changes or shape deformations are found, it is advisable to first raise objections with the place of purchase after consulting with the laundry service provider.
