Choiganguk's 'Amkeot' Insult... Women's Group Warns "Will Sue for Defamation if No Apology"
Former Democratic Party lawmaker Choi Kang-wook recently sparked controversy by using the expression "설치는 암컷" ("the females causing trouble") while harshly criticizing the Yoon Seok-yeol administration at a book concert. In response, the Korean Women's Associations United issued a warning, stating that they will file a defamation lawsuit if no apology is made.
On the 21st, Heo Myung, president of the Korean Women's Associations United, released a statement on behalf of all members, saying, "We are appalled by reports that former lawmaker Choi referred to the government as one where 'females are causing trouble' while criticizing the Yoon Seok-yeol administration," and questioned, "Does he see all women only as females?"
President Heo stated, "Women are dignified human beings just like men. Is it acceptable for someone who represented all citizens as a member of the National Assembly to trample on women's dignity like that?" She criticized, "If he has served as a lawmaker, shouldn't he have the discernment to distinguish between what should and should not be said, even when criticizing the government?"
