Choe Kang-wook's 'Female' Remark, Warning Issued by Opposition... Ruling Party Says "Democratic Party Also Responsible"
Former Democratic Party lawmaker Choi Kang-wook, who recently harshly criticized the Yoon Seok-yeol administration at a book concert using the expression "설치는 암컷" (literally "the noisy female"), has sparked controversy, prompting the Democratic Party leadership to issue a stern warning. The ruling party raised their voices, saying "the Democratic Party also bears responsibility."
On the 21st, Cho Jung-sik, Secretary-General of the Democratic Party, described Choi's remarks as "very wrong statements that cause disappointment and great hurt to the people," and said the party took such measures, according to the Democratic Party.
At a book concert held by lawmaker Min Hyung-bae on the 19th, Choi said, "(In George Orwell's) Animal Farm, female animals rarely make noise or cause trouble," targeting the Yoon Seok-yeol administration. He added, "I'm not using 'female' as a derogatory term," but he could not avoid controversy over the disparaging remarks.
The ruling party immediately criticized him. Hwang Bo-seung-hee, an independent lawmaker formerly of the People Power Party, said on social media (SNS), "If the Secretary-General had to issue a warning and an apology, it shows how serious this is," adding, "No matter how polarized and divided politics become, likening the Yoon Seok-yeol administration to 'the noisy female' went way too far."
She continued, "The Democratic Party must take responsibility for the crude politics of former leader Song Young-gil, who harshly criticized Minister of Justice Han Dong-hoon, along with former lawmaker Choi's abusive remarks," and said, "Criticism is acceptable, but politics that hate people or use harsh insults must be eradicated."
Jang Ye-chan, the youngest Supreme Council member of the People Power Party, said on MBN's 'Press Room Live,' "This is not just about holding former lawmaker Choi responsible; this has now become a problem for the Democratic Party," pointing out, "Not only Choi but also Chief Spokesperson Kwon Chil-seung's vulgar remarks and Supreme Council member Jang Kyung-tae's 'poverty porn' remarks have never been disciplined."
