Seocho-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jeon Seong-su) will hold a "Networking Day," a meeting place for mentors and mentees participating in the Seocho-gu Independent Youth "Always on My Side" mentoring project, at the Seocho-gu Office on the 23rd.
The district's "Always on My Side Mentoring Project" is a program that provides emotional and psychological support to young people preparing for independence from child care facilities, allowing them to rely on and lean on someone like family. Since starting in July this year, 25 mentors and mentees have been actively participating.
Currently, 12 outstanding talents from various professions, including professional mentors such as doctors and lawyers, as well as clinical health psychologists, young entrepreneurs, architects, and university students, are active. They have been serving as mentors to 13 independent youth, providing counseling support such as psychological and concern consultations and legal advice through regular meetings at least once a month.
The district organized this event for the first time to share the achievements of the "Always on My Side Mentoring Project" and exchange impressions.
The Networking Day, held at 7 p.m., will be attended not only by mentors and mentees participating in the mentoring project but also by prospective independent youth. The program will proceed in the order of ▲watching an activity video ▲sharing impressions of the mentoring project ▲taking commemorative photos ▲and useful legal education for daily life.
In particular, during the "Sharing Impressions of the Mentoring Project" session, various cases will be shared, such as a lawyer mentor guiding a mentee suffering from involvement in a crime victim case through specific legal procedures and document preparation, a young entrepreneur mentor providing vivid experiences and mentoring necessary for successful start-ups to a mentee wishing to start a business, and a case where a working mentee’s workplace difficulties were listened to and books helpful for emotional healing were read together.
Additionally, with the support of the Seoul Arts Center, cultural performances such as classical music concerts and magic shows will be held, introducing various cultural experience achievements to the independent youth.
Finally, lawyer Lee Mi-jung, who is active as a mentor, will conclude the event with practical legal education useful in daily life, such as prevention of jeonse fraud and voice phishing.
The district expects that this "Networking Day" will further strengthen the bond between mentors and mentees.
Meanwhile, the district has provided nationwide top-level support for the successful independence of independent youth. This includes a maximum of 25 million KRW for five years of settlement funds and up to 18 million KRW in living allowance, as well as support for ▲university tuition fees up to 12 million KRW ▲and academy fees up to 4 million KRW.
In the future, the district plans to expand support to prospective independent youth, including children in foster care and group homes, and to activate experiential activities and small group meetings.
