Jung Kyung-shim Appeared on Crutches, Remained Silent to Reporters' Questions
Seoul Central District Court Appeal Trial Attendance
Using Crutches and Being Supported
Silent in Response to Reporters' Questions
Former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk and former Dongyang University professor Jeong Gyeong-sim, who was recently released on parole, appeared in the appellate trial on charges of obstruction of inspection and admission fraud involving their children on the 20th. Around 1:48 p.m. that day, Professor Jeong arrived at the Seoul Central District Court using crutches and being supported. She did not respond to reporters' questions such as "Does Cho Min, who admitted to the admission fraud charges, maintain the same position?", "Is there a reason you volunteered for defendant questioning?", and "Have your feelings changed since being released on parole?"
Earlier, former Minister Cho arrived about 10 minutes before Professor Jeong. When asked, "There are criticisms that the witness adoption is a strategy to delay the trial," he replied, "I will sincerely attend the trial."
The former minister and his wife were prosecuted for admission fraud allegations including their son's cheating on a university online exam and falsification of the school records related to their children's admissions. Former Minister Cho is also charged with receiving illicit scholarships for his children and obstruction of inspection regarding Yoo Jae-soo, former Busan City Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs.

Meanwhile, Professor Jeong, who was sentenced to four years in prison for admission fraud involving her children, was released on parole in September with 11 months remaining on her sentence. During her imprisonment, she applied several times for suspension of execution of the sentence due to a ruptured herniated disc, spinal stenosis, and surgery for lower limb paralysis. At the time of her parole release, she also left the detention center in a wheelchair.
