Prosecution Charges Fugitive Kim Gilsu with 'Aggravated Robbery'... Escape Charges Under Ongoing Investigation
The prosecution has indicted Kim Gilsu (36), who escaped after serving time at Seoul Detention Center on charges of special robbery and was on the run for three days.
According to the legal community on the 20th, the Criminal Division 5 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Lee Jundong) formally charged Kim Gilsu with special robbery on the same day.
Kim Gilsu is accused of contacting the victim on September 11th under the pretense of requesting laundering of illegal funds, then spraying tear gas spray on the victim who came out carrying cash, and stealing a bag containing 740 million won before fleeing.
At the time, Kim deceived the victim by showing a falsely prepared bankbook balance certificate and pretended he would transfer money to the victim's account. Investigations revealed that he planned this crime to repay gambling debts.

Kim Gilsu was arrested by the police on the 30th of last month and was under detention investigation, but he escaped while receiving treatment at a hospital on the 4th. He was apprehended by the police about 63 hours later. The additional charge of escape was transferred to and is being investigated by the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office from the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office Anyang Branch on the 17th.
