Gwangju Seo-gu Successfully Hosts Sports Stacking Championship... Player Kim Si-eun Takes 1st Place
Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, successfully concluded the ‘2023 WSSA Asian Open Sport Stacking Championship’ held at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center from the 17th to the 19th, breaking world records.

According to Seo-gu on the 20th, the event, co-hosted by Seo-gu and the Korea Sport Stacking Association, saw participation from over 350 athletes from 10 Asian countries including South Korea, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Singapore, and Thailand.
Notably, Kim Si-eun (South Korea), ranked number one in the world, set world records in the women’s cycle (5.342 seconds) and women’s 3-3-3 (1.562 seconds) events, while Chan Keng Ian (Malaysia) set the men’s cycle world record (4.843 seconds).
In the International Challenge, a national team competition, the Malaysian team won the championship by defeating South Korea 2:1 in the finals.
Additionally, South Korea’s Lee Da-bin (the youngest at 6 years old) ranked 52nd with a combined time of 17.358 seconds, and Park Bok-soon (the oldest at 73 years old) ranked 61st with a combined time of 20.453 seconds, among other achievements.
This tournament was the first international event hosted at the district level, and Seo-gu successfully led the event through interdepartmental collaboration and cooperation with related organizations and groups.
In partnership with the Gwangju Tourism Organization, Seo-gu also enhanced its tourism image as a ‘Seo-gu you want to visit again’ by offering traditional gangjeong making and hanbok experience programs at the Seochang Hanok Culture Center.
Larry Gores, President of the World Sport Stacking Association, praised the event as “a flawless competition with nothing lacking.”
Kim Yi-gang, Mayor of Seo-gu, stated, “The experience of hosting an international event for the first time in Seo-gu will serve as a foundation for Seo-gu’s leap as a sports city. In the future, we will realize community-based sports activities by bringing unique sports such as sport stacking, volleyball, and fencing directly to residents.”
