National Cancer Center Collaborates on Building 'Goyang Precision Medicine Cluster'
The National Cancer Center announced on the 20th that it has signed a mutual cooperation agreement with Goyang Special City to establish a cooperative system for creating the 'Goyang Precision Medicine Cluster' to revitalize the bioindustry. The signing ceremony took place on the 17th at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, attended by Seo Hong-gwan, Director of the National Cancer Center, Lee Dong-hwan, Mayor of Goyang Special City, and other officials.

Through this agreement, the National Cancer Center plans to support Goyang Special City's efforts to attract a national advanced strategic industry specialized complex for bio precision medicine. In cooperation with the city, they will jointly explore strategies for establishing the Goyang Bio Precision Medicine Cluster and advancing the bioindustry. They also plan to concretize ways to utilize the National Cancer Center's cancer big data and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, cancer diagnosis and treatment technologies, and research achievements in basic and convergent cancer studies. The city intends to establish a precision medicine cluster within the Ilsan Techno Valley area in Daehwa-dong, Ilsanseo-gu, aiming to develop it as a research-centered bio cluster specialized in clinical trials.
Director Seo Hong-gwan stated, "The National Cancer Center possesses world-class capabilities in all fields related to cancer, the leading cause of death in Korea, including treatment, research, national cancer management projects, and education. By leveraging the National Cancer Center's national cancer data, human-derived resources, and research networks, we expect to accelerate the establishment of Goyang Special City's precision medicine cluster, significantly contributing to the revitalization of the medical industry and the development of Korea's bio-ecosystem."

Mayor Lee Dong-hwan of Goyang Special City also said, "We will do our utmost to cooperate with the National Cancer Center in securing designation as a national advanced strategic industry bio specialized complex by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and support Goyang Special City to grow into a key city achieving world-class results in cancer-related research and development."
