Pukyong National University Students Win Consecutive Awards at SPIE-ABC International Conference
Jiho Lee, a master's student in the Department of 4th Industrial Convergence Bionics Engineering at Pukyong National University, and Yeongeun Kim, a master's student, each received the 'Young Investigator' and 'Best Poster Award' respectively at the 'SPIE-ABC (Advanced Biophotonics Conference) 2023' international conference.
Jiho Lee presented his research on "Enhanced Melasma Treatment Using Dual Pulse Mode of Q-switched Laser" at the international conference recently held by the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE) and the Korean Optical Society, earning the 'Young Investigator' award.
In this study, together with Hwarang Shin, another master's student from the same department, he confirmed that the dual pulse mode effectively removed melasma in the model and delayed recurrence with minimal thermal damage compared to a single pulse, revealing the therapeutic mechanism of the dual pulse for melasma treatment, which received excellent evaluation.
Yeongeun Kim presented research on "Photothermal-Photodynamic Combination Therapy Mediated by GNP-Ce6 for Prostate Cancer Treatment" at the international conference and received the 'Best Poster Award.'
In this study, she fabricated GNP-Ce6 and confirmed that the photothermal-photodynamic combination therapy more effectively eliminated prostate cancer than single treatments, providing a basis for future therapy development and gaining recognition for her research achievements.
She also received the Excellent Poster Award at the 62nd Korean Society of Medical and Biological Engineering (KOSOMBE 2023) held recently at Korea University with this research topic.
They conducted this research with support from the National Research Foundation of Korea's Science and Engineering Field University-Focused Research Institute Support Project and the 4th phase BK21 New Senior Customized Healthcare Project.
