Feel Safe and Play Freely... Yeongdeungpo-gu Manages Environmental Safety in Children's Activity Spaces
Regular and occasional inspections at 142 locations including playgrounds and childcare rooms by December this year... Checking for facility corrosion and aging, heavy metal tests... Requesting detailed inspections and administrative actions if standards are exceeded... Thorough management of children's spaces to create a pleasant and safe environment
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it is conducting environmental safety management for 142 children's activity spaces to allow children to play freely.
Children's activity spaces refer to areas where children under the age of 13 mainly engage or stay, such as children's playgrounds, daycare rooms, and school playgrounds.
The district aims to protect children's health and create a safe play environment by preemptively blocking harmful factors such as heavy metals and parasites that may occur in children's facilities.
Safety management will be carried out regularly and on an ad hoc basis until December this year. In addition to self-inspections conducted by the district, joint inspections with the Ministry of Environment and related organizations will also be conducted.
The district checks for corrosion and aging such as rust, cracks, and peeling paint on children's facilities, and conducts heavy metal tests on facility coatings, finishing materials, and synthetic rubber flooring using portable heavy metal measuring equipment (XRF).
Additionally, the district thoroughly inspects ▲ heavy metals and parasite detection in playground sand ▲ use of preservatives in wooden facilities ▲ emission of pollutants in indoor activity spaces.
If the heavy metal measurement exceeds 0.07% of the standard value based on inspection results, samples are collected and sent to the Health and Environment Research Institute for detailed analysis. Administrative measures such as facility improvement orders are also taken for facilities exceeding the standards.
Meanwhile, last year, the district conducted safety inspections on a total of 93 children's activity spaces including daycare centers, parks, child welfare facilities, and apartment complexes.
