Promoting Renewable Energy Sources for Carbon Neutral Cities
Yeongam-gun (Governor Woo Seung-hee) has been finally selected for the ‘2024 Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project’ hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Energy Agency, securing 1.045 billion KRW in national funding.
This project supports regions and villages practicing energy self-sufficiency through resident participation, including the installation of two or more types of renewable energy sources such as solar photovoltaic and solar thermal, as well as renewable energy facilities in mixed residential, public, and commercial building areas.
According to the county on the 9th, following the project selection, they will proceed with installing solar photovoltaic systems in 350 houses and buildings, and solar thermal systems in 42 houses.
Yeongam-gun, which has been preparing for the public offering project since March, completed the consortium evaluation and selection, and applied for the project to the Korea Energy Agency at the end of June based on a demand survey conducted from April to June.
With this national funding secured through the public offering, Yeongam-gun has achieved the distinction of being selected four times for the Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project.
Over the past five years, it has secured 6.1 billion KRW in national funds, enabling a total project scale of 13.5 billion KRW.
With this budget, projects were completed at 339 sites in 2020 and 468 sites in 2021, and this year, projects are underway at 408 sites across five myeon including Dopomyeon.
Including next year’s projects, the total will reach 1,607 sites across 11 eup and myeon, consisting of 1,422 solar photovoltaic sites and 185 solar thermal sites.
Furthermore, having recently completed the selection of a private contractor for the Yeongam-gun Energy Center, Yeongam-gun plans to accelerate the creation of energy self-sufficient villages and energy efficiency and conservation projects starting next year.
A Yeongam-gun official stated, “We will ensure that the Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project and the creation of energy self-sufficient villages contribute to residents’ energy welfare. As residents’ awareness of renewable energy improves and demand increases, we will actively discover related eco-friendly projects to lead the realization of a sustainable clean energy city.”
