On the 8th, the city announced that it has designated Bitgaram General Hospital as the medical institution for checkups since June and is supporting the full cost of the checkups (90% national funding, 10% city funding).
The special health checkup for women farmers differs from the existing general health checkups by focusing on the prevention of diseases with high incidence rates due to strenuous farm work.
A total of 10 examinations are conducted across five areas: musculoskeletal system, cardiovascular system, fracture and injury risk, lung capacity, and pesticide poisoning.
In addition to early diagnosis of work-related diseases, the program includes education and specialist consultations for follow-up management and prevention, receiving great responses from women farmers.
Kim Sun-ae, director of the Naju Women Farmers Support Center, said, “The special checkup, including pesticide poisoning which is not part of general checkup items, has a high satisfaction rate,” and added, “We hope that all women farmers can receive the special health checkup.”
A representative from Bitgaram General Hospital stated, “The special disease checkup will greatly help prevent diseases among women farmers caused by excessive farm work,” and added, “Follow-up preventive education after the checkup, such as clothing during pesticide spraying, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and training and practice for improving the work environment, is especially well received.”
