Samsung Electronics President Lee Young-hee Selected as Forbes' 'Most Influential Woman in Asia'
The Only Female CEO Among Non-Owner Family Members
Lee Young-hee, President of Samsung Electronics' Global Marketing Office, was selected as one of the 'Most Influential Women in Asia' this year.
Forbes reported on the 6th (local time) that it selected 20 female leaders who have reached the top positions in major companies representing the Asia-Pacific region as '2023 Forbes Asia’s Power Businesswomen.' Lee was the only person from Korea to be chosen.
Forbes stated, "She is a figure with no blood relation to the founding family of Samsung Group and was promoted from Vice President to President in charge of Global Marketing in December 2022," adding, "Lee Young-hee’s promotion marks the first high-ranking female executive appointed from outside the founding family." Forbes also emphasized that Lee is the only female president among the 17 presidents within Samsung Electronics.
Earlier this year, Lee was also included in Forbes' list of '50 Women Over 50 in Asia,' which recognizes women over 50 who have achieved success across fields such as technology, pharmaceuticals, arts, and politics. In 2013, she was ranked 2nd in Forbes' list of the 'World’s Most Influential Chief Marketing Officers (CMOs).'
Born in 1964, Lee studied advertising and marketing at Northwestern University Graduate School. She then worked as a marketing expert mainly in foreign companies such as Bureau Veritas Korea, Unilever Korea, SC Johnson Korea, and L’Or?al Korea.

After joining Samsung Electronics in 2007, Lee led the successful marketing story of the Galaxy series. She was recruited as an executive at Samsung Electronics and was responsible for mobile phone marketing in the Strategic Marketing Team at the DMC Research Center. She was recognized for her contribution to establishing and popularizing the Galaxy brand, rapidly advancing to Senior Vice President and Vice President. In particular, she is credited with significantly contributing to the success of Samsung Electronics’ smartphone brand 'Galaxy' and wearable brand 'Gear.' Lee is bringing new vitality to the organization as Samsung Electronics’ first female president, demonstrating her capabilities in customer-centric marketing innovation.
