BNK Gyeongnam Bank Builds 'Non-face-to-face ID Facial Recognition System' for Customer Financial Safety
Financial Fraud Involving Identity Theft of Third Parties
Expected to Contribute to Prevention
BNK Gyeongnam Bank announced on the 6th that it has established an ‘ID Card Facial Recognition System’ to strengthen the identity verification process when opening accounts non-face-to-face, ensuring customers' financial safety.
The ID Card Facial Recognition System verifies identity by comparing the photo of the customer's face taken via smartphone during non-face-to-face transactions with the photo on their ID card.
In particular, it compares the position and proportional size of facial contours such as the eyes, eyebrows, nose, mouth, and jawline to check facial similarity and verify whether the person is the same individual.
By applying the ID Card Facial Recognition System when customers undergo non-face-to-face identity verification for account opening and other services, BNK Gyeongnam Bank has further strengthened security to prevent fraudulent use of ID cards.
Lee Kyung-gi, Head of the Digital Strategy Department, said, “With the establishment of the ID Card Facial Recognition System, we expect to contribute to preventing financial accidents where third parties maliciously open accounts by stealing ID cards. BNK Gyeongnam Bank will continue to create trustworthy non-face-to-face services for financial consumers.”
