The ‘Yeongdeungpo (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) Youth Architecture School’ (hereinafter referred to as the Architecture School) announced that it has promoted a home repair support project for national veterans and socially vulnerable groups in the region.
Established in 2018 as the first architecture school in a Seoul autonomous district, the Architecture School has been providing young people with support for obtaining interior design certifications and hands-on field training. In particular, it has carried out social contribution activities by selecting vulnerable groups in need of residential environment improvement every year in the first and second halves of the year and providing free home repairs.
The first half home repairs were conducted in April this year for four vulnerable households in the region. The second half home repairs, from October 10 to November 3, improved the living spaces of two national veterans’ households and four vulnerable households, receiving great acclaim.
Within a budget of 1.5 million KRW per household, home repair construction included ▲ wallpapering, tile installation ▲ replacement of kitchen furniture and faucets ▲ installation of bathroom and kitchen ceramics ▲ and other floor work.
Graduates who completed a certain level of technical training participated in this home repair, and all construction was safely carried out under the guidance of professional instructors.
The graduates of the Architecture School gained valuable field experience through participation in this home repair and had the opportunity to give back to the local community with the skills they acquired, making the project even more meaningful.
Meanwhile, in August this year, Hyundai Livart signed a tripartite business agreement with Yeongdeungpo-gu and the Architecture School for social contribution activities, providing high-quality materials such as tiles, kitchen furniture, and bathroom ceramics necessary for this home repair construction.
A national veteran who received home repair support expressed gratitude, saying, “The kitchen furniture was very old and inconvenient to use, so I am truly thankful for the replacement with new kitchen furniture,” and added, “After the wallpapering and flooring were done, it feels so clean and cozy as if I moved into a new house.”
