Boseong-gun Conducts Disaster Response Safety Korea Drill
Establishment of a Collaborative System Among Related Agencies and Organizations to Respond to Large-Scale Wildfires
Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 2nd that it conducted the ‘2023 Disaster Response Safe Korea Drill’ involving residents to promptly respond to large-scale wildfire disasters and establish a response system.
The Disaster Response Safe Korea Drill is conducted annually to strengthen the nationwide disaster preparedness posture, with participation from 309 organizations including central government ministries, metropolitan cities and provinces, local governments, and public institutions.
This drill selected wildfire disasters, which have a high likelihood of occurrence based on the risk analysis of disasters within the region, as the drill type. About 200 people attended, including Boseong-gun, Boseong Fire Station, Boseong Police Station, Korea Electric Power Corporation Boseong Branch, KT Boseong Branch, Boseong Volunteer Fire Brigade, Boseong Autonomous Disaster Prevention Group, and the National Experience Group.
In particular, following the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s basic plan, an integrated linked drill was introduced for the first time, connecting the wildfire site and the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters in real time. The drill simulated actual situations with the dispatch of one wildfire firefighting helicopter and about 100 members of the Volunteer Fire Brigade and Autonomous Disaster Prevention Group to the site.
Deputy Governor Kim Gyu-woong said, “In preparation for the autumn wildfire caution period, we conducted a practical drill involving residents to respond to large-scale wildfires. Through the drill, we will establish a cooperative system with related organizations and make every effort to protect the precious lives and property of residents.”
Meanwhile, Boseong-gun was selected as an excellent institution in the 2022 Disaster Response Safe Korea Drill evaluation and received a commendation from the Minister of the Interior and Safety. It has also been selected as an excellent institution in disaster management evaluation for five consecutive years, greatly contributing to the improvement of regional safety.
