After Late November Heat and Autumn Rain, Cooling Down... Southern Region's Foliage Beautifully Colors
The heat that had heated up the entire country, making late autumn seem meaningless, is expected to subside after this weekend. From next week, early winter cold will also begin.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on the 3rd, the highest temperature in Seoul the previous day was 25.9 degrees Celsius, the highest November temperature since modern meteorological observations began in Seoul in 1907. This is the first time in 12 years since November 5, 2011, that Seoul's highest November temperature record has been broken. Daejeon, Daegu, Gyeongbuk Gyeongju, and Gangwon Gangneung also broke their all-time highest November temperature records.
The reason for the abnormal high temperatures in early November is that the continental high pressure, which brings cold winds, has not expanded northwest of the Korean Peninsula. Clear weather continued under the influence of a high pressure system centered in the south, along with the inflow of warm and humid southwesterly winds. In the central region, cloudy weather prevented active radiative cooling, so nighttime temperatures did not drop, which also contributed to the high temperatures.
The late heat is expected to subside with rain starting from the weekend. On the 3rd, the whole country will be cloudy, so the temperature rise due to solar radiation during the day will be minimal. The rain, which began early morning in northern Gyeonggi and northwestern Gangwon Yeongseo, will mostly stop by afternoon or evening. After a brief lull, rain will start again from the 4th and continue until Monday, the 6th. From next week, cold winds will blow strongly, causing temperatures to drop sharply, marking the start of early winter cold. The morning low temperatures in Seoul on the 7th and 8th are forecasted to be 4 degrees Celsius each.

Due to the late heat, the peak autumn foliage, which was evaluated as less vibrant than usual, is expected to regain its true colors. The Korea Meteorological Administration explained, "The colors of the autumn leaves are more beautiful when the daily temperature range is large, but the late heat has caused the early autumn colors to be less vivid than usual." The autumn foliage in the southern regions, which will continue from next week when the full cold sets in, is expected to be beautifully colored.
