Dongjak-gu Cleans Rainwater Drains Blocked by Fallen Leaves... Preventing Road Flooding from Autumn Rain
Designating 42 Routes Totaling 27km as Special Management Routes... Full Effort on Prevention
Dongjak-gu (Mayor Park Il-ha) announced on the 2nd that it will strengthen the management of rainwater drains until the end of the year in preparation for concentrated autumn rainfall.
One of the reasons for road flooding damage was that fallen leaves accumulated in the rainwater drains blocked drainage. Accordingly, the district has established and is actively implementing preventive measures to avoid rainwater drain blockages and flooding.
First, about 4,400 rainwater drains and 42 routes totaling 27 km in length within the area have been designated as special management routes to enhance patrols and inspections.
Priority dredging work on rainwater drains will be carried out in areas requiring focused management, such as places with dense street trees or slopes.
In addition, considering the timing of fallen leaves by street tree species, leaves will be proactively removed in conjunction with pruning work.
When heavy rain is forecast, an on-site rapid response team will be immediately dispatched. Dredging vehicles such as street sweepers and clean mobile teams, along with specialized personnel, will be deployed to carry out preemptive measures including removing leaves from rainwater drain covers and inlets.
Furthermore, dedicated rainwater drain managers will be operated, and joint public-private cleaning of back roads and thorough cleaning around rainwater drains will be conducted simultaneously.
