Busan City Holds 'People Power Party Busan City Party Budget Policy Council'

People Power Party Busan City Chapter Discusses Additional National Funding Projects and Solutions to Busan Issues
Busan City and local members of the National Assembly join forces ahead of the National Assembly budget review!
On the 2nd at 10:30 a.m., Busan City will hold a ‘Budget Policy Meeting with the People Power Party Busan City Party’ in Yeouido, Seoul to discuss resolving major municipal issues and securing next year’s national budget.
The Budget Policy Meeting will be attended by Mayor Park Hyung-jun, the Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs, special advisors on political affairs, women, and economy, the chief policy officer, and key department heads, demonstrating Busan City’s strong determination to secure national funds for critical issues.
From the People Power Party Busan City Party, Chairman Jeon Bong-min and Busan members of the National Assembly will also attend, expressing their active support for Busan City’s efforts to secure next year’s national budget.
In particular, during the meeting, the city plans to request active support from the Busan City Party for projects that are critical and newly initiated, as well as major national budget projects that must be prioritized next year but have not been sufficiently reflected in the government’s budget proposal and therefore require additional funding during the National Assembly’s budget review process.
The major Busan City issues and key national budget projects to be discussed on this day are as follows.
First, as major issues driving Busan’s development and leap forward: ▲ Attracting the 2030 Busan World Expo ▲ Prompt construction of Gadeokdo New Airport ▲ Rapid promotion of Busan Port North Port (phases 1, 2, and 3) redevelopment ▲ Relocation of the Korea Development Bank headquarters to Busan ▲ Strengthening Busan’s public medical infrastructure and services (promoting the conversion of Chinlye Hospital into a public hospital, establishing West Busan Medical Center, and promoting the construction of a municipal children’s hospital) ▲ Vitality support for government special zones to enhance regional competitiveness (preparing differentiated support measures for the success of Opportunity Development Zones, designating Busan as a Global Innovation Zone, creating the Centum 2 District Urban High-tech Industrial Complex (Urban Convergence Zone), selecting Busan as a pilot area for the Education Development Zone, and fostering the Busan Power Semiconductor Specialized Complex) ▲ Strengthening urban competitiveness and regional balanced development (undergrounding of the Gyeongbu Line railway, establishment of next-generation Busan-type express railway, creation of the Macdo 1 million pyeong Green City (designation as a national urban park), and establishment of the National Natural Heritage Center in Busan) ? the meeting will focus on discussing implementation plans to accelerate the resolution of regional issues.
Additionally, key national budget projects to be secured next year include ▲ Development and demonstration of new export research reactors ▲ Creation and activation of a green data center cluster ▲ Hosting the 2024 World Volunteer Conference ▲ Fostering the Asia Contents & Film Market ▲ Establishment of the Busan Port Smart Digital Twin Platform ▲ Technology and manpower support projects for marine advanced industry (Blue Tech) companies ▲ Establishment of a manufacturing service innovation robot end-effector demonstration base ▲ Construction of a process innovation simulation center ▲ Non-point pollution reduction project for the Dongcheon main stream ▲ Construction of the Hwangnyeong 3 Tunnel road ▲ Support for installation of convenience facilities in urban rail transit ▲ Construction of the Gadeok Bridge to Songjeong IC elevated road, among 21 major projects ? the meeting will discuss strategies to secure national funding for these projects.
Since March, Busan City has held seven policy consultations with both the Busan City Parties of the ruling and opposition parties and their central parties to resolve municipal issues and secure next year’s national budget.
In particular, the city has recently established the ‘National Budget Securing Task Force (National Assembly Resident Team)’ led by the Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs at an early stage, stationed near the National Assembly, and is closely responding to the budget review trends of each standing committee and the Budget and Accounts Committee.
Busan City plans to continue close cooperation with the leadership of both ruling and opposition parties, local members of the National Assembly, and others to resolve regional issues and make every effort to secure as much budget as possible for projects not reflected in the government’s budget proposal until the final approval of the National Assembly budget.

Mayor Park Hyung-jun said, “Next year, we will bring about tangible changes in the lives of the region and its citizens,” adding, “We will do our utmost to secure next year’s national budget so that key priority projects that will trigger waves of innovation necessary to make Busan a global hub city where citizens are happy can proceed without setbacks. I also ask for full cooperation and support from the Busan City Party.” He emphasized, “We will frequently communicate with Busan members of the National Assembly and work together to solve regional issues.”
