Designation of Legal Holidays Starting Next Year
The 2nd "Hydrogen Day" event was held on the 2nd at the 63 Convention Center in Yeouido, Seoul, with over 300 participants from the industrial, academic, and research sectors.
Hosted by the public-private hydrogen industry promotion organization "Hydrogen Convergence Alliance" (H2KOREA) and sponsored by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, this event was first held last year to raise public awareness and acceptance of the hydrogen economy.
With the passage of the amendment to the "Act on the Promotion of the Hydrogen Economy and Hydrogen Safety Management" in the National Assembly last month, "Hydrogen Day" (November 2) will become a legal commemorative day starting next year. The national and local governments can hold various commemorative events in line with the purpose of Hydrogen Day.
At the event, awards were presented to individuals who contributed to the activation of the hydrogen economy. The Industrial Award was given to Lee Jeong-bin, CEO of Wonil TNI, and Koo Young-mo, Research Director at the Korea Automotive Technology Institute. Jeju Special Self-Governing Province received the Presidential Citation, and Kang Young-taek, Head of Changwon Industry Promotion Agency, was awarded the Prime Minister's Citation.
Additionally, 34 individuals and 10 organizations received the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Citation, and the Minister’s Award was presented to the winners of the "Know Hydrogen Energy Correctly UCC Contest."

Kang Kyung-sung, 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, said in his congratulatory speech, "The high competitiveness of Korea’s hydrogen industry in the global market, including hydrogen vehicles and hydrogen fuel cell power generation, is thanks to the efforts of hydrogen industry workers who boldly pioneered business areas. We will focus on establishing related systems and improving regulations to create an ecosystem based on clean hydrogen."
