Although most of the construction of the Giheung Reservoir circular walking trail, which started in 2016, was completed, the section from the reservoir sluice gate to the water golf course was not connected due to opposition from nearby residents concerned about privacy invasion.
Since 2020, the city has created a sidewalk and installed two pedestrian bridges in that section after obtaining the consent of the landowners to build the walking trail. With the completion of this section, the circular walking trail project that began in 2016 has been finalized. A total of 12.2 billion KRW was invested in the project.
During the construction process, the city also installed lighting along approximately 3 km of the western lakeside walking trail, where nighttime walking was difficult due to the lack of lighting, spending 800 million KRW. Additionally, in cooperation with the Yongin Eastern Police Station and Gomae Police Substation, location signboards were installed so visitors can identify their position within the park.
Completed in 1964, Giheung Reservoir is the third largest reservoir in the metropolitan area after Idong and Gosam Reservoirs. Originally developed as an agricultural reservoir, it is now mainly used as a walking trail for residents' relaxation as the surrounding farmland has been developed.
