Jeon Seung-il, Gwangju Seo-gu Council Member, Urges Passage of 'Itaewon Disaster Special Act' Statement
Jeon Seung-il, a member of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu Council, on the 30th delivered a representative statement urging the enactment of the Itaewon Disaster Special Act.
All members of the Seo-gu Council urged the government and the ruling party to ▲ actively cooperate in enacting the Special Act within this year ▲ establish safety management measures ▲ provide appropriate support and sincere apologies to the victims and bereaved families.
Councilor Jeon stated, “It has been one year since the Itaewon disaster occurred, but there has been no proper fact-finding or punishment of those responsible,” and added, “Through an independent special investigation committee specified in the Special Act, the facts and responsibilities must be clarified to restore the honor and guarantee the rights of the victims and bereaved families.”
He continued, “Although the Special Act was designated as a fast-track bill by the ruling party last July, it has yet to pass the National Assembly,” and urged swift enactment, saying, “The Special Act is being disparaged as a bill for political strife, obstructing its enactment.”
