Fire at Kazakhstan Mine... At Least 21 Dead
A fire broke out at a mine in the Karaganda region of western Kazakhstan, killing at least 21 people, according to major foreign media reports.
On the 28th (local time), ArcelorMittal Temirtau, the mine operator, reported that a fire occurred at the Kostenko mine, and 208 out of 252 people on site evacuated. Among them, 18 are receiving treatment for injuries, and 23 remain unaccounted for.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kazakhstan, expressed condolences to the families of the victims and ordered the government to halt investment cooperation with ArcelorMittal. Previously, the Kazakh government had been negotiating to nationalize ArcelorMittal.
