High-Level Party-Government-Presidential Council Meeting to Be Held on the 29th... Discussing Lumpy Skin Disease and Household Debt
Confirmed Cases of Lumpyskin Disease Rise to 52... 6 Suspected Reports Also Under Investigation
On the morning of the 29th, the government, the Presidential Office, and the People Power Party held a high-level council meeting at the Prime Minister's official residence in Samcheong-dong to discuss the cattle viral disease Lumpy Skin Disease, winter livestock epidemic prevention measures, the current status of household debt, and future response directions, the People Power Party announced on the 28th.
At this meeting, they are expected to review the spread of Lumpy Skin Disease and discuss vaccination, culling, and other livestock farm quarantine and support measures.
Previously, the party, government, and presidential office agreed at a high-level council meeting on the 22nd to promptly provide special grants to local governments to respond to Lumpy Skin Disease.
According to quarantine authorities, as of 8 a.m. on the 28th, there have been 52 confirmed cases of Lumpy Skin Disease. A total of 47 cases were confirmed from the 20th to the 26th, with 5 additional cases reported the previous day. A total of 3,624 cattle have been or are being culled across 52 farms.
Lumpy Skin Disease is a disease that infects only cattle through blood-sucking insects such as mosquitoes, with a mortality rate below 10%. Authorities believe the virus was introduced into the country around mid-last month and are conducting epidemiological investigations.
Additionally, the party, government, and presidential office are expected to discuss measures to curb the recent surge in household loans at the meeting on the 29th.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Choo Kyung-ho said at a press briefing on the 5th regarding household debt, "It is at a level that requires considerable vigilance," adding, "We will prioritize and consistently manage it to maintain macro-financial stability."
This council meeting is the second held since the launch of the second leadership team centered on People Power Party leader Kim Gi-hyeon, following the defeat in the Seoul Gangseo District mayoral by-election.
The People Power Party leadership previously proposed regularizing the high-level party-government-presidential office council meetings, which were held irregularly and privately during meetings with President Yoon Seok-yeol, to once a week, and the Presidential Office accepted this proposal.
Attending from the party are leader Kim Gi-hyeon, floor leader Yoon Jae-ok, policy committee chairman Yoo Ui-dong, secretary-general Lee Man-hee, and chief spokesperson Park Jeong-ha.
From the government side, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, Deputy Prime Minister Choo Kyung-ho, Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Jeong Hwang-geun, Minister of SMEs and Startups Lee Young, and Financial Services Commission Chairman Kim Ju-hyun are present.
