Korea Workers' Compensation and Welfare Service, Award Ceremony for Artists' Employment Insurance Promotion Contest
On the 27th at 3 p.m., the Korea Workers' Compensation and Welfare Service held an awards ceremony for the winners of the Artist Employment Insurance Promotional Material Contest at the Nodeul Island Live House.
The Artist Employment Insurance Promotional Material Contest was held for the second time this year, following last year, as a way to increase understanding of the employment insurance system among artists who are unfamiliar with it by having them directly participate in the creation of promotional materials.
In this year's 2nd contest, 20 works were selected as winners across four categories: short-form content, jingles, characters, and calligraphy.
The Service held an exhibition titled "Art Meets Employment Insurance" at Nodeul Gallery Hall 2 from the 21st to the 27th, showcasing last year's and this year's winning works.
During the exhibition period, various events were held to inform visitors to Nodeul Island about the Artist Employment Insurance and the Service's major projects.
The Artist Employment Insurance system is a social security program implemented on December 10, 2020, that enables artists engaged in temporary labor such as artwork production to continue stable artistic activities through unemployment benefits and maternity benefits.
Despite initial forecasts that the system would be difficult to establish in the art field due to unsettled contract practices and various forms of service at the time of implementation, as of October 2023, the cumulative number of artist subscribers has reached 200,000.
Moreover, the number of artists receiving unemployment and maternity benefits is gradually increasing, and the system is being recognized as successfully established as a social safety net for artists.
Director Park Jong-gil stated, "This year's contest also saw many excellent works that well expressed the Artist Employment Insurance, providing an opportunity for many artists to enhance their understanding of the employment insurance system."
He added, "We will continue to seek ways for artists to benefit not only from employment insurance but also from various welfare projects carried out by the Korea Workers' Compensation and Welfare Service."
