Gwanak-gu Takes Action to Eliminate CCTV Blind Spots to Prevent Abnormal Motivation Crimes
Secured the Largest Amount of 4.62 Billion KRW Among Autonomous Districts from Seoul City... Plan to Install Over 500 CCTV Cameras at 200+ Parks, Hiking Trails, and Dulle-gil Paths by Next Year... Full Effort to Prevent Abnormal Motive Crimes Targeting CCTV Blind Spots
Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) is making every effort to prevent crimes with abnormal motives in order to create an environment where residents can live with peace of mind.
The total area of Gwanak-gu is 29.56㎢, of which green areas account for 13.84㎢ (46.82%). The district has the second highest number of CCTV (closed-circuit television) cameras among Seoul's autonomous districts, but due to local conditions, some blind spots for CCTV existed on hiking trails and walking paths.
Considering recent crimes targeting these CCTV blind spots, the district is actively responding by expanding CCTV coverage in parks, hiking trails, and walking paths to protect the safety of residents.
The district recently secured a special adjustment grant of 4.62 billion KRW from the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the largest amount among Seoul's autonomous districts.
Based on field surveys and opinions from the Gwanak Police Station, the district has selected priority installation areas and plans to install about 500 intelligent CCTV cameras in over 200 locations including parks, hiking trails, and walking paths by next year.
Intelligent CCTV can automatically detect violence and abnormal behavior, enabling rapid response in emergency situations.
The district will do its best to ensure that the expansion of CCTV coverage has a significant effect on preventing and actively responding to crimes with abnormal motives.
Along with this, the district also prepared a ‘Comprehensive Safety Plan for Violent Crime Prevention’ earlier this month.
By 2027, a total of 43.6 billion KRW will be invested to implement 23 measures across four areas (▲strengthening on-site patrols ▲expanding crime prevention facilities ▲expanding crime prevention projects ▲establishing a safety response system), striving to create a ‘Safe Gwanak’ where residents can live with peace of mind.
The district is urgently investing 4.5 billion KRW this year and concentrating all administrative efforts to alleviate residents' safety concerns.
Measures include ▲conducting a full survey of CCTV and security light blind spots and prioritizing installation in vulnerable areas ▲deploying permanent patrol personnel (50 in hiking trails and parks, 10 around Sillim Intersection) ▲doubling the number of companions for safe return home routes ▲holding expanded local security council meetings to strengthen cooperation with related organizations.
In particular, on the Gwanaksan forest trails, the district plans to expand the installation of “National Point Number Signboards” every 200 meters along hiking trails. These signboards are necessary for quick location guidance and rescue in emergencies on hiking trails.
This year, the district will prioritize expanding the number of National Point Number Signboards from 84 to 98, focusing on crime-vulnerable areas, and plans to invest a total of 600 million KRW by 2027 to increase installations by 350%.
