Nong-eochon Gong Jeonnam Holds 'Rural Space Forum' to Address Local Extinction

The Jeonnam Regional Headquarters of the Korea Rural Community Corporation (Head Jo Young-ho) announced on the 25th that it held the '2023 Jeonnam Rural Space Forum' at Naju Jungheung Gold Spa, focusing on rural space policy and responses to local extinction.

About 70 participants, including regional development officers from the headquarters and branches, Jeollanam-do, local governments, Jeonnam Research Institute, university professors, and other stakeholders and experts, attended the forum, which proceeded with keynote presentations, comprehensive discussions, and capacity-building training for officers.

In the keynote presentations, the following topics were covered: ▲ Direction and challenges of central government regional development policies (Dr. Cho Sang-pil, Jeonnam Research Institute) ▲ Participation case of Jangheung-gun rural space maintenance project (Team Leader Jeong Ik-ju, Jangheung County Office) ▲ Current status of local extinction response fund management and local government response measures (Researcher Han Seung-seok, Korea Rural Community Corporation) ▲ Participation case of Jeonnam Regional Headquarters in response to local extinction (Deputy General Manager Park Byung-woon, Jeonnam Regional Headquarters, Korea Rural Community Corporation).

During the expert discussion chaired by Professor Song Kyung-hwan (Suncheon National University), various opinions were presented to enhance the effectiveness of spatial restructuring that prevents indiscriminate development and restores rural characteristics, including infrastructure improvements and incentives to expand resident participation.

Head Jo Young-ho said, “With the enforcement of the Rural Spatial Restructuring Act approaching, I hope this forum serves as an opportunity for local stakeholders to gather and share wisdom on ways to implement more productive policies,” adding, “We will continue efforts to create a new future for rural areas imbued with rural charm.”
