This lecture was organized to share the innovative projects being promoted by the 8th Jeju Provincial Government with 113 trainees (national secretaries) who visited Jeju for 3 nights and 4 days (October 23-26) to explore excellent cases of history and culture.
Governor Oh Young-hoon, who delivered the special lecture, emphasized that Jeju is moving toward the future through the history and overcoming process of Jeju April 3 Incident, and explained future innovative industries that the Jeju provincial government is focusing on promoting.
Governor Oh said, "Jeju is loved worldwide as a tourist city thanks to its naturally beautiful environment, but in the future, it will be more fittingly described as 'an advanced city leading Korea's future industries.' We are focusing on three major projects as growth engines for a 'shining future created together with the residents.'"
He continued, "Since the launch of the 8th provincial government, we have been preparing to commercialize Urban Air Mobility (UAM) in 2025 as the first in Korea and as a tourism-oriented service. We are accelerating the commercialization of Jeju-type urban air mobility in cooperation with domestic companies (SK Telecom, Hanwha Systems, Korea Airports Corporation) as well as U.S. companies (Joby Aviation, Overair)."
Furthermore, he emphasized, "Jeju not only has an environment favorable to the space industry but also several private space companies such as Hanwha Systems are pioneering space activities here. A space economy ecosystem where all processes from satellite assembly to launch are conducted in a one-stop manner will be established in Jeju."
He also introduced that, as important as future industries, the happiness of each resident is a priority, and that the 'Jeju Value Integrated Care' has been implemented from this month to create a Jeju without care worries.
Governor Oh stated, "We will build a dense care safety net so that no resident is left out and everyone can receive care, creating a 'Special Happiness Province' where all residents are happy."
