Kim Bora, Anseong Mayor's Special 'Library Love' Draws Attention
Building a Small Library Ecosystem "Serving as a Space for Reading, Education, and Culture"
"A Space Everyone Wants to Visit... Upgrading Citizen Happiness"
Kim Bora, the mayor of Anseong City in Gyeonggi Province, is gaining attention for her exceptional love of libraries. Despite limited financial resources, she is actively promoting the construction of libraries throughout Anseong City, demonstrating her commitment to making them regional cultural hubs.
In September, the 'Wongok Small Library' opened at the Wongok-myeon Administrative Welfare Center in Anseong City, Gyeonggi Province. It is the third 'small library' established in Anseong, following Yangseong-myeon and Miyang-myeon, and was created as part of the city's 'One Library per Township' project.
Located on the third floor of the Administrative Welfare Center, the Wongok Small Library goes beyond the role of a simple library by serving as a community hub for Wongok-myeon through customized lifelong learning, resident participation programs, cultural content, and small group activities. Programs such as autumn poetry readings and coffee education are held here, along with various activities that allow parents and children to participate together using books.
The Miyang Small Library, situated on the third floor of the Miyang Administrative Welfare Center, houses a collection of over 5,300 books and includes spaces such as the 'Miyang Workshop,' which serves as a community lounge, and the unique 'Our Village Kitchen.' Customized reading culture programs tailored to different generations are also offered for residents.
Similarly, the Yangseong Small Library, located on the third floor of the Yangseong Township Office, provides an interlibrary loan service that allows access to books from all libraries within the jurisdiction. Librarians offer reading recommendations through personally written reviews to provide residents with reading information. This library also hosts citizen participation programs such as reading clubs, art, and crafts.
The city also operates two specialized libraries centered around Bogae Library and Ayang Library. Bogae Library, specialized as a book culture center, supports individual creative activities through independent publishing programs. Ayang Library, an English-specialized library, promotes initiatives such as building an English book collection and e-book subscription services, as well as an English experience fairy tale village and a native speaker picture book room.
