Lotte Wellfood Introduces Braille Package 'Pepero'
Lotte Wellfood (formerly Lotte Confectionery) announced on the 24th that it has introduced 'Pepero' with a braille package. To commemorate the 44th White Cane Safety Day this year, Lotte Wellfood sponsored 4,000 limited edition braille-packaged 'Almond Pepero' through the White Cane Safety Day event hosted by the Seoul Association of the Visually Impaired on the 21st.
This special production of braille-packaged Pepero was planned to share Pepero's core brand value of 'sharing hearts' with more members of society. Although braille labeling on food packaging is gradually increasing, confectionery products face relative difficulties in applying braille specifications due to the materials and various shapes of their packaging.
The donated limited edition Almond Pepero braille package features 'Pepero Almond' embossed in braille at the top front. At the bottom front, the brand message 'Share your heart with Pepero' is written in braille. On the side, 'Pepero Almond' is also written in braille, and to enhance ease of consumption, the back includes a braille label for 'Open' to indicate how to open the box.
The braille Pepero package was also recognized for its design, winning the main prize in the Brand & Communication Design category at the 2023 Red Dot Design Award. The minimal use of other elements such as the product logo and the efficient placement of braille in line with the package’s concept received high praise.
