LG Innotek Introduces Automated Full Inspection System for Substrate Design... "Improving Yield"
AI Blueprint Pre-Analysis System
Trained on Over 16,000 Data Cases
"Detects Over 90% of Defects"
LG Innotek announced on the 24th that it has introduced an artificial intelligence (AI)-based pre-analysis system for design schematics that detects defects in substrate products at an early stage.
Since this year, LG Innotek has applied AI to the pre-analysis of design schematics for semiconductor package substrate (PS) product lines such as Radio Frequency System-in-Package (RF-SiP) and Antenna-in-Package (AiP). The strategy is to use AI to identify vulnerable areas in substrate schematics during the development phase to improve initial product yield.
PS substrate products integrate high-density fine circuits. Defects such as open circuits and short circuits occur due to various causes including line width, line spacing, and circuit length.
The problem was that circuit design flaws were often detected only after product testing and production. Previously, only certain areas of the circuit were inspected during the schematic pre-verification stage. With the introduction of the AI schematic pre-analysis system, it is now possible to automatically conduct a full inspection of even the minute parts of the schematics.
LG Innotek stated that it closely analyzed various substrate drawing features to develop the AI pre-analysis system. More than 16,000 preprocessed data sets of circuit defect patterns and vulnerabilities, verified by PS substrate developers during final inspection, were trained into the AI. When new schematics are received, the AI detects defective areas in the drawings with over 90% accuracy.
Gil-Dong Son, Executive Vice President and Head of the Substrate Materials Division at LG Innotek, said, "By conducting AI pre-verification during the development phase, we expect to shorten the timeline for full-scale mass production of substrate products," adding, "We also anticipate an effect of expanding customer orders."
LG Innotek plans to continuously enhance AI schematic analysis capabilities based on the accumulated database (DB).
