Cho Kuk Criticizes Yoon Seok-yeol as "Two-Tongued" and Accuses Him of "Pseudo Rule of Law"
"Yoon Seok-yeol Government, Rule Through Law"
Former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk directly criticized the Yoon Suk-yeol administration, calling it a 'pseudo rule of law.'
On the afternoon of the 20th, at a book concert for his new book "Dike's Tears" held at Sangji University in Wonju, Gangwon Province, former Minister Cho responded to a written question from the audience asking, "What is the most important quality a president should have?" by saying, "The president must respect and simultaneously fear the people," making this statement.
Former Minister Cho said, "If the sovereign people are neither respected nor feared, one might fall into the perception of 'I am the king,' leading to various wrong actions," adding, "Basically, one must at least respect and fear the sovereign people."
He continued, "The rule of law should be about controlling and checking those in power, not about using the law to dominate."
Additionally, former Minister Cho said, "The Yoon Suk-yeol administration talks about the rule of law. The rule of law is a structure where the law governs, but the Yoon administration's rule of law is domination using the law," and added, "The Yoon administration's rule of law is pseudo rule of law. When enforcing the law, the subjects should not be selectively chosen."
On the same day, he wrote on Facebook, "Yoon Suk-yeol has always had 'double tongues' [double tongue, Nimaijita (二枚舌)]."
He pointed out, "Yoon Suk-yeol, who said he agreed with all the prosecutorial reforms of the Moon Jae-in administration as a nominee for Prosecutor General, and Yoon Suk-yeol, who overturned all those reforms after becoming president, are the same person. Yoon Suk-yeol, who launched a slogan for investigating 'living power' and pushed for a sweeping investigation targeting the Moon Jae-in administration as Prosecutor General, and Yoon Suk-yeol, who is now using all means to block investigations into 'living power' as president, are the same person."
He also said, "'Yoon Suk-yeol, who said 'ideology is the most important,' and Yoon Suk-yeol, who said 'ideological debates must stop,' are the same person."
This appears to be a critique of President Yoon Suk-yeol's recent remarks at a staff meeting urging to "stop wasteful ideological debates and focus only on people's livelihoods," and his statement at the People Power Party training session on August 28 that "ideology is the most important."
