Jindo-gun Selected for 'Regional Characteristics Enhancement Project' Public Contest

Development Project for Specialized Commercial Area in Nokjin Tourist Site... 900 Million KRW Investment

Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do, has achieved the great success of being finally selected in the Local Design category of the '2023 Regional Characteristics Revitalization Contest' hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

According to the county on the 20th, the Regional Characteristics Revitalization Contest hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety is a project aimed at boosting the local economy by utilizing regional features and resources. A total of 169 local governments nationwide applied across five categories, and 27 local governments, including Jindo-gun, were selected.

Jindo-gun was selected in the Local Design category and secured a total project budget of 900 million KRW, including approximately 600 million KRW in national and provincial subsidies, which will be invested in the development of a specialized commercial street in the Nokjin Tourist Area by 2025.

The specialized commercial street development project plans to install uniquely designed street elements and store signboards based on the symbolism of the Battle of Myeongnyang, as well as remodel the Nokjin weekend market.

A tourism official from Jindo-gun said, "We hope that the promotion of this Local Design project will contribute to the local economy by increasing tourists and revitalizing the commercial district at Nokjin Tourist Area, the gateway to our county," and added, "We will continue to do our best to make Jindo a must-visit destination with distinctive and diverse tourism industries."
