Police Agency Hosts the 9th International Forensic Science (CSI) Conference
The National Police Agency will hold the "9th International Forensic Science Conference" for three days starting from the 18th at Songdo Convensia in Incheon.
Now in its ninth year, the "International Forensic Science Conference" is the largest academic conference in the field of forensic science held in Korea. This year, under the theme "Forensic Science, a New Leap: Beyond the Boundaries of Knowledge," future development strategies will be discussed.
All sessions of this conference will be broadcast live, with forensic experts participating from around the world, including Asia, Europe, North America, Latin America, and Africa.
In particular, experts from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), International Association for Identification (IAI), University of Hawaii Medical School, Middle Tennessee State University, as well as the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), Humboldt University Berlin in Germany, and the Royal Thai Police Hospital will visit Korea to deliver lectures in their respective fields.
The conference will begin on the 18th with a keynote speech by Scott Walton, Deputy Director of the U.S. DEA, followed by a total of twenty-nine presentations over three days.
The first day, titled "Meeting with World Experts," will feature lectures by experts in four fields (drugs, genetics, forensic anthropology, and on-site investigation). They will share the latest trends in forensic science, including new trends in novel drugs, cutting-edge drug testing techniques, and the increase in identity theft crimes and countermeasures.
On the second day, under the theme "New Directions in Forensic Science and Future Policing," research results on opportunities and challenges in forensic policing in the era of super-large artificial intelligence and the future of DNA analysis will be presented. Following this, the topic "Current Status and Prospects of Forensic Scientific Examination" will discuss future response strategies for forensic scientific examination, including the integration of video analysis and montage. The session "Evolving Technology-Centered On-Site Forensic Science" will examine actual cases such as construction accidents, fire accidents, and marine accidents from the perspective of applying advanced technology.
Finally, on the third day, various research results in the fields of forensic psychology, forensic medicine, forensic anthropology, and legal medicine will be presented. Under the theme "Questioning Abnormal Motive Crimes," opinions will be exchanged on countermeasures for abnormal motive crimes, which have recently emerged as a social issue. The session "Insights from Forensic Medicine, the Connection with the Field" will present diverse cases such as autopsies of organ donors and corpse damage caused by animals in winter climates.
Additionally, to commemorate this conference, a "Forensic Science Academic Poster and Photo Contest" will be held simultaneously, exhibiting 40 outstanding works to showcase the achievements of forensic scientists.
Meanwhile, at the International Public Safety Expo, visitors can experience exhibitions and demonstrations of forensic science equipment. Advanced equipment such as video analysis devices will be demonstrated, and the general public will have the opportunity to directly experience forensic techniques such as fingerprint analysis and brainwave analysis.
