Gwangjin-gu Hosts the 17th Senior Janggi and Hangung Tournament
Long-Lasting Game and Hangung Tournament for Seniors Held on the 17th at Gwangjin-gu Office Auditorium... Promoting Fellowship and Harmony Among Seniors and Revitalizing Their Later Years
On the 17th, the "17th Gwangjin-gu Senior Janggi and Hangung Competition" was held at the Gwangjin-gu Office auditorium.
Organized by the Korea Senior Citizens Association Gwangjin-gu Branch (President Hwang Gap-seok) and sponsored by Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho), this event was promoted to foster friendship and harmony among seniors and to provide vitality to their later years.
In particular, this year’s event included the popular "Hangung" competition for seniors. Hangung is a traditional recreational sport that combines the advantages of Tuho, archery, and target archery, helping with cognitive development and fine motor skills.
About 350 people attended the event, including Mayor Kim Kyung-ho, members of the National Assembly, city and district council members, and seniors from Gwangjin-gu.
With the striking of the starting bell signaling the beginning of the competition, the host explained the game rules, and matches were held throughout the morning and afternoon.
In the Janggi competition, 46 seniors participated, playing league matches up to the round of 16, followed by knockout matches until the finals. In the Hangung competition, 140 participants competed in team and individual events, with preliminary and final rounds.
As a result, in the Janggi category, senior Go An-jong won first place, senior Kim Seong-su took second place, senior Jo Hee-song came in third, and senior Ma Man-ho placed fourth.
In the Hangung team event, Group A took first place, Group H second, and Group I third. In the individual event, senior Lee Jeong-ja won first place, senior Park Yong-wook second, and senior Ahn Gyeong-bok third, earning the honor of awards.
