Asiana Union Launches Petition Campaign Opposing Korean Air Corporate Merger
The Asiana Airlines labor union has launched a petition campaign opposing the corporate merger with Korean Air.
According to industry sources on the 16th, the Asiana Airlines union, affiliated with the Korean Public Service and Transport Workers' Union, will conduct a petition campaign targeting employees nationwide from today until the 20th.
The union plans to compile the petition results and submit them to the board of directors meeting, which is expected to be held as early as the end of this month.
Asiana Airlines is scheduled to discuss a plan to partially sell its cargo business at the board meeting as part of the corporate merger with Korean Air.
In a statement released on the 25th of last month, the union expressed opposition to the merger, saying, "The erasure of Asiana Airlines must be reconsidered from the beginning." They added, "The government continues to ignore the fact that transport rights and slots, which are the competitiveness of the aviation industry, are being freely handed over to competing countries," and demanded, "Immediately halt the corporate merger that surrenders aviation sovereignty."
