Strengthening Safety Management at Senior Centers... Training 3,000 Seniors as Inspectors
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Health and Welfare announced that they will establish measures to strengthen safety management for small-scale vulnerable facilities such as senior centers and sign a business agreement on the 17th.
Among the 82,000 small-scale vulnerable facilities nationwide, senior centers account for 46,000. While these centers are aging, safety management issues are increasing due to a lack of management personnel and safety inspections. Accordingly, the two ministries plan to train more than 3,000 seniors (60 years old + α) as inspectors from this year until 2027, conducting over 180,000 inspection activities.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will support the hired seniors by providing IT-based smart inspection web tools, inspection capability training, performance verification, and database management. The Ministry of Health and Welfare will organize inspection standards for senior centers and support 50% of the job project costs so that local governments can hire seniors.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport plans to have specialized personnel from the Korea Infrastructure Safety Corporation directly visit facilities with safety concerns identified during inspections to conduct detailed safety checks and propose corrective measures. In addition, linked with the Green Remodeling project, it will be possible to receive up to 70% support for energy performance improvement construction costs, including repair and reinforcement expenses.
