The coverage is scheduled to be published in both print and online editions in November.
Journalist Guichard Guillaume visited EcoPro Pohang Campus and POSCO steelworks to investigate the reasons for investing in Pohang, the production processes and scale, and the products manufactured. He also conducted interviews with officials regarding competitiveness in the international market and future plans.
Through an interview with Mayor Lee Kang-deok, he explored the turning point that transformed Pohang from a steel city to a battery city, Pohang’s unique strengths, and the policies the city has pursued so far. They also had an in-depth discussion about Pohang’s future economic and development policy goals.
Journalist Guillaume said, “I was impressed by an article on Pohang’s secondary batteries published in Bloomberg last March and had planned to visit Pohang, which is making its presence felt in the global market. I had the opportunity to cover the Korean automobile market and decided to visit Pohang. Through this opportunity, I plan to introduce Pohang’s innovative industries to the European audience.”
Mayor Lee Kang-deok emphasized, “Continuing the spirit of steel for the nation, we are fully committed to realizing battery for the nation to contribute once again to national development. Along with the steel and battery industries, we will lead Korea’s era of innovation by fostering innovative industries such as bio and digital.”
Les Echos, first published in 1908, is a must-read for the French economic sector and is recognized globally alongside English-language Financial Times, German Handelsblatt, and Singapore’s Straits Times. It is widely read by global audiences and delivers industrial and economic news worldwide through its website.
Through this coverage, Pohang City expects to raise awareness of its excellent secondary battery industry infrastructure and capabilities not only in France but also across Europe and the world, anticipating an increase in companies and media visiting Pohang. The city plans to strengthen related industrial and economic policies accordingly.
Additionally, since the designation of the secondary battery advanced strategic industrial complex in July, the city has continued various policies and communications to revitalize the complex, including the 2050 Battery for the Nation Expert TF meetings and grand debates, the launch of the secondary battery corporate council, and public reporting sessions.
On November 14, Pohang will host the ‘Battery International Conference,’ providing a forum for domestic and international secondary battery companies and academic experts to discuss the activation of the secondary battery industry, further enhancing the status of Pohang as a battery-for-the-nation city.
