Hwasun-gun, 42nd County Residents' Day Event... Residents and Tourists Flock
‘Special Invitation to Hwasun Coal Mine Workers Commemorating the 118-Year History of Hwasun Coal Mine Closure... Adding Meaning and Emotion’
The ‘42nd Hwasun County Residents' Day’ event successfully concluded with a crowd of 15,000 people.
On the 16th, Jeonnam Hwasun County announced that the Residents' Day event held at the special stage in Hwasun Public Stadium received active participation and positive responses from residents and tourists through various programs and attractions.
In particular, this year’s Residents' Day event reflected on the past year and commemorated meaningful events in the county by specially inviting about 200 workers from the Hwasun Mining Site, which was closed for the first time in 118 years, to honor its significance.
Before the ceremony, performances by local singers such as Jeon Bi-ju, Cha Hyo-rin, Choi Yoo-jin, Lee Sung-sook, Kim Yeon-su, as well as Kings Band, Rough Crew (popping dance), Prologue, Sagwanamu (popera), Omokdae (daegeum), Gu Soo-min (soprano), and percussion group Cheongmyeong captivated the audience with a variety of genres.
During the first part of the ceremony, the Yeomi Choir, composed of residents from various sectors, sang the national anthem and the residents' song. Two youth representatives from the young adult and newlywed full-occupancy housing residents, who moved in for the first time this year, read the Residents' Charter, adding a fresh touch.
County Governor Goo Bok-gyu, in a letter to the residents, said, “Recent great achievements in Hwasun are the result of the unity of all residents and about 1,400 public officials. Please join us in creating a harmonious future for Hwasun.”
The themed performance titled ‘Talking about Hwasun’ was a complex show combining video, songs, acting, and choreography centered on major themes such as the Hwasun chronicle (lifestyles of residents by era), the closure of the Hwasun coal mine, and Hwasun’s present and future. It evoked nostalgia among residents and left a deep impression and lingering emotion.
The second part, Harmony Festival, was conducted as a singing contest prepared by residents from 13 towns and townships.
As a special event, 13 town and township heads took the stage together to sing in a choir, expressing their gratitude to the residents who participated.
