Assault on Nonagenarian Mother, 60s Son Who Retaliated Equally Sentenced to Prison
A man in his 60s was sentenced to prison for hitting his mother in her 90s with a soju bottle.
According to the legal community on the 14th, Judge Lee Chang-won of the Seoul Northern District Court Criminal Division 11 sentenced A (63) to one year in prison on the 21st of last month for the charge of special injury to a protected family member. The court explained the sentencing by stating, "Although the crime is serious, the defendant committed the act impulsively after being hit on the head with a soju bottle by the victim."

A was indicted for hitting his mother B (91) on the forehead at their home in Nowon-gu, Seoul, at around 12:40 a.m. on December 12, 2020. It was investigated that B had come asking for A's basic livelihood security benefits. A expressed refusal, and an angry B first struck A's forehead with a soju bottle. Enraged, A then hit B's forehead, causing injury.
