She debuted on the LPGA Tour in 1947 and amassed a total of 41 wins, including 10 majors.
Zaharias first entered a men’s tournament at the 1935 Cascade Open. She subsequently competed seven times, including the 1937 Chicago Open and the 1938 LA Open. In 1945, she was the only one to make the cut at the Phoenix Open, finishing 33rd.
‘Golf queen’ Annika S?renstam (Sweden) made her name known at the 2003 Bank of America Colonial. A ‘superstar’ with 72 career wins including 10 majors, S?renstam shot rounds of 71 and 74 but did not make the cut.
The female golfer who has challenged men’s tournaments the most is Michelle Wie West (USA), who competed an impressive eight times. From 2004 to 2007, she played in the Sony Open, the John Deere Classic in 2005 and 2006, the 84 Lumber Classic in 2006, and the Reno-Tahoe Open in 2008. All results ended in missing the cut.
