[2023 National Audit] Yoon Hee-geun "Realizing Competent and Confident Police... Prioritizing Public Safety"
Yoon Hee-geun, Commissioner of the National Police Agency, expressed his determination to reorganize the police force to strengthen frontline public safety capabilities and to operate with the utmost priority on public safety.
At the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee's National Police Agency audit held at the National Police Agency headquarters in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, on the morning of the 12th, Commissioner Yoon stated, "In light of the recent series of abnormal motive crimes, I deeply felt the need for efforts to enhance the police's response capabilities to protect everyday safety, along with the entire society's interest and participation." He added, "We are conducting special security activities to swiftly suppress the crime atmosphere and are using this as an opportunity to build a more robust social safety net through close cooperation at the inter-ministerial level."
Commissioner Yoon also said, "We have taken the lead in eradicating malicious fraud that brings tears to ordinary citizens and drug crimes that destroy communities, spreading social consensus, and have further advanced the police response system against crimes targeting socially vulnerable groups such as women and children." He continued, "To ensure the community remains healthy, we have upheld law and order based on consistent standards according to laws and principles, and have firmly responded to unfairness and injustice that undermine social trust." He emphasized that all efforts are being made to eradicate crimes affecting people's livelihoods and drug-related crimes.

Along with this, Commissioner Yoon announced plans to enhance the level of education and improve legal systems to strengthen police capabilities. He said, "We will raise the level of police education and training so that members can acquire solid skills and capabilities, and concretize the ongoing future security tasks to dramatically improve the competitiveness of the police." He added, "We will activate social cooperation on security issues to seek fundamental solutions and improve laws and systems so that police officers can work confidently, assertively, and proactively."
