Arab League Foreign Ministers Hold Emergency Meeting on Israel-Palestine War Response: "Peace Talks Must Begin"
Saudi-led... No Mention of Hamas
Bin Salman Reiterates Support for Palestine
The Arab League, a coalition of Arab countries, held an emergency foreign ministers' meeting on the 11th (local time) and urged serious negotiations between Israel and Palestine. Without mentioning the Palestinian armed faction Hamas, it emphasized that the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) should negotiate with Israel and that the spread of military conflict must be prevented.
According to the British daily The Guardian and others, the foreign ministers of the Arab League, which includes 22 Arab countries such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Syria, and Palestine, stated at the emergency meeting held in Cairo, Egypt, that "it is important to resume the peace process and start serious negotiations between the PLO and Israel."
The foreign ministers also urged Israel to fulfill its international obligations as an occupying power and to return to negotiations on the "Israel-Palestine two-state" solution recognizing Palestine as a sovereign state.
The meeting was held under the leadership of Saudi Arabia to find a solution to the armed conflict triggered by the Palestinian armed faction Hamas's attack on Israel last weekend. Since Hamas's attack on Israel on the 7th, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan has been in contact with the Gulf region and the West, including a phone call with UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly.
Saudi Arabia later issued a separate statement saying, "We must work together to meet the aspirations of our brotherly Palestinian people," pointing to the deprivation of the Palestinians' legitimate right to establish a sovereign state as the cause of the current situation.
Also, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, a key figure in Saudi Arabia, emphasized support for Palestine during a phone call with Mahmoud Abbas, head of the Palestinian Authority, saying, "We are consulting with all relevant international and regional parties to prevent escalation and spread of tensions."

Meanwhile, The Guardian reported that the United States has unofficially expressed disappointment over Saudi Arabia’s stance of not condemning Hamas, which carried out brutal attacks on Israel, and instead suggesting that the violence would not have occurred if Palestinians had been recognized as an independent state, a demand they have made for decades.
