On the 11th, Gyeongbuk Province opened the '2023 International Steel and Nonferrous Metals Industry Exhibition' at Daegu EXCO, attended by about 100 people including Lee Dal-hee, Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs of Gyeongbuk Province, Yang Ki-wook, Director of Industrial Supply Chain Policy at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Park Yong-seon, Vice Chairman of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Council, Kim Nam-il, Deputy Mayor of Pohang, and other related organization heads and businesspeople.
Now in its 7th year, the International Steel and Nonferrous Metals Industry Exhibition is co-hosted by Gyeongbuk Province, the Korea Iron & Steel Association, and the Korea Nonferrous Metals Association, with support from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. The event provides an opportunity to review the present and future of the steel and nonferrous metals industries.
This year’s event, themed “A New Leap Forward for the Future Basic Materials Industry,” is held over three days. It features an exhibition with 169 companies and 554 booths in areas such as future metal materials, advanced metal materials, battery and eco-friendly special pavilions, as well as various side events including the Agenda 23 conference, export consultations, seminars, and recruitment briefings.
The main exhibition items include future metal materials, high value-added advanced metal materials, high-performance steel pipes and wire cables, and processing equipment and technologies. Special pavilions for steel pipe/wire/stainless steel processing equipment integrated with various future industries, battery, and eco-friendly energy will be set up to showcase the limitless expansion potential of the steel and nonferrous metals industries.
Notably, major companies such as POSCO, Hyundai Steel, LS MnM, TCC Steel, and Poongsan are participating in large numbers, presenting eco-friendly steel and nonferrous metal products along with related processes and technologies. Visitors can explore carbon neutrality roadmaps through POSCO’s hydrogen reduction steelmaking, Hyundai Steel’s eco-friendly steel technologies, and LS MnM’s world-class nonferrous metal smelting technologies.
Additionally, EcoPro and POSCO Future M, participating in the special pavilions, will showcase various battery materials and next-generation material technologies fused with metal materials.
Gyeongbuk Province is investing 103.1 billion KRW from 2021 to 2026 to revitalize the steel and metal materials industries. This includes establishing regional bases for steel industry leap-forward technology development projects, building smart logistics platforms, smart energy platforms, and integrated control centers in the Pohang Steel Industrial Complex, constructing pilot production bases for lightweight material surface treatment, and successfully promoting infrastructure development, smart manufacturing advanced workforce training, and corporate support projects.
